The book features interviews with artists in their studios, discussing their working practices, as well as with with Tate Britain's Painting Conservation team and Alan Fitzpatrick and Jon Archdeacon of A.P. Fitzpatrick, suppliers and researchers of artists' materials.
It also collects together some stories about painting from a wide range of contributors.

Such a collection of stories, recounted experience, apocryphal gossip and even deliberate misinformation should also fuel and invigorate the future practice of painters
